Jan Korcz was born January 1st 1905 in Sambor (in a picturesque town located 70 km from Lwów). He was the oldest son of Anna and Maciej Korcz, who were good people from the village. He was the oldest, but also he was causing problems. In the opposite to his older sister Karolina and to brother Józek he was defiant, lively and his character showed how big was the individualist. He always had been going his own way.
It was only the passing of the primary school and the discovery of artistic ability brought some temporary calm of his character.
