Chess fan
Prof. Marszał took delight in solving mathematical problems. He also liked chess and what's more he often played without a physical opponent but with himself in his own head. He often replied “checkmate!’’ when students greeted him with ‘’Good morning”.
Choir kepper
Prof. Marszał was a big music enthusiast, especially school choirs. Despite not being musically educated he was a choir keeper in our school.
Own marking scheme
Professor was remembered as a demanding teacher. He had his own marking scheme and was using the ‘‘F’’ mark long before it has been implemented officially in Poland.
"Thus..."
Prof. Marszał was kind for everyone but sometimes he had short outbursts of anger when he came across notable mathematical ignorance. In such a said situation he would turn red, made a comment on the state of mind of the poor student, and waved his hand characteristically. His alumni memorized very well, that he also used the adverb “thus”, known from mathematical proofs.
The illness
After the war prof. Marszał had a chest infection. He was cured in Zakopane and even from there he maintained epistolary contact with his students, sending them mathematical tasks to solve. Wanting to recover from the illness and toughen up himself he weared only a thin polyamide coat and sandals even to late fall which was memorized by many.
